Hey Y'all, I'm Back!

Hey!
In my last post about moving past inconveniences, I thought we were done with them.
I had fully expected to return to posting after our wonderful trip to the beach.

(Cheeks, Doodlebug, Honey Do and me at Blue Mountain Beach, Florida)

But the reality is, more stuff got in the way so here I am a month later.
I had intended to write, read and do all sorts of blogging catch up and that didn't happen.
A cat with a nasty inner ear infection who ruptured her eardrum and cries all day unless you carry her like a baby, the mandate to repair your roof or else from the insurance company and another car that needed work are some of the things that have happened.

These times are the seasons you take the good with the bad even when sometimes you slip, fall, bust your lip and generally look all bruised up.

"Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides.  You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors.  So don't try to get out of anything prematurely.  Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way. "  James 1:2-4 The Message

I've missed y'all and blogging! Let me know what's up and how you're doing!

Blessings,

Mimi

A Time for Everything

Hey!

I'm taking a couple of weeks off from posting but not from writing and reading all of the other wonderful posts out there.

I'll be back in June!

Moving Past Inconveniences

Hey!

Mother's Day began rather quiet and sedate then...

Let me back up three weeks ago --- Honey Do started a renovation in our living room and installed a dishwasher when the old one died.  On this past Thursday, my children were here for dinner and as I heated the oven I heard a pop and a crackle and then, began to see sparks.  Thinking the sparks were just something burning off; we put the nachos in only to see more sparks as they traveled up the heating coil.  Honey Do, quickly, shut off the power and we pulled the nachos out.

On Friday, I drove Doodlebug's car and discovered the alignment was still pulling to the left which we recently fixed.  We left her car with the shop and the guys working on it rolled down her "don't roll down window" that is now rolled down and stuck.  The car is also still pulling to the left so we're left to wonder if they really fixed the alignment.

Fast forward to Sunday, I woke up went into the kitchen to get my breakfast and discovered my laundry room floor was flooded.  The hot water heater was kaput.  Not having enough time to run to my parent's or my son's before church to shower, I took a spit bath in the sink.  Ugh! All the while trying to recognize my blessings by thinking about the fact that many around the world take cold showers or have no water every day.

The Mother's Day brunch that was scheduled to be at my house for the family got moved to my parents and most of the day was spent feeling grimy due to said spit bath and Honey Do installing a new hot water heater which is bigger so I've lost valuable storage space.

Isn't that just the way renovation sometimes happens and not just renovation of a house but, renovation of our souls?  Life's little annoying inconveniences unravel composure but faith's growth renovation challenges old patterns.

When I paused long enough to recognize my grumbling didn't fix anything, contentment started to root and I began to see reasons for thanksgiving and blessing.  The hot water heater could've busted while we were on vacation and flooded the house for a week.  We had the means to buy a tank on short notice as well as a son-in-law who pitched in to help install the tank.  Our family gathered to share a meal together and the day was gorgeous.  Doodlebug's car runs and can be fixed. And I can find humor and contentment in a day filled with errors.

How about you? Do you have moments like this too?

Blessings,

Mimi

The Living Room Project

Hey!

I teased you last week with pictures of what my Honey Do is busy doing in my living room.  If you missed the tease, you can find it here.

We moved in this house about 15 years ago.  We did some small redecorating projects like painting and removing layers of wallpaper in this room but saved the big renovation project for another day.  Well, another day is finally here!

Honey Do thinks the house was built in 1978.  We don't have a separate living room and den.  We have one large living space.  The room has a vaulted ceiling with rough hewn beams and a large faux rock fireplace wall.   I liked the rock, at first, until I had to try and decorate around it.  Seriously, what do you do with those decorative niches?!  I think the bottom one was used for wood except we have a gas fireplace and the top one had mirror which I painted out because it reflected the back of the niche which was raw sheetrock -- not pretty.

Move in day: 1997

The demolition is almost finished and the drywall is about to go up.  The space, on the far right of the picture where Honey Do is shining a flashlight, still has to come out.

Here's the plan:

We're removing the fireplace from the wall on the right that shares the foyer entrance.  I want to relocate the fireplace and put in bookcases on the vaulted ceiling wall.  I think the flow of the room will greatly improve by moving it to this wall.  I also want to get rid of the carpet.
I wish renovation was quicker but Honey Do is doing his part and I'm trying to do mine.  I have tons of sewing in my future. I want to make slipcovers for my furniture and I can't wait to show you the awesome fabric I've found for curtains!

Blessings,

Mimi

Living Room Project

Hey!

Today, I'm wearing my hat of wedding coordinator at church.   But, I thought I'd give you a quick peek at what was behind those drop cloths from my post the other day -- here --

Next week, I'll post about our plans!

Blessings,

Mimi
